Hey friends its Zayda! Today, half of us return to our classrooms as we had yesterday off to memorialize the Bishop of Belmopan, Belize. We began our mile walk to school as we were greeted by goats on the way there. As we stepped on school grounds we were met with warm hugs from students at the gate. I arrived to my classroom I completed small tasks for my teacher such as creating posters for the class and organizing classroom materials.
As I finished organizing, the classroom teacher asked me to teach math, specifically descending numbers. I responded enthusiastically asking when should I have it prepared and she responds "right now" with a smile. As all the children were waiting with anticipation I had no choice but to hop into position. As I finished the lesson I was relieved with how smoothly it went. We then continued with our school day and was dismissed for lunch. After lunch, my teacher shares that she must be gone and I was given the opportunity to teach full time for 2 hours! I quickly decided the class would make books on the days of creation. We completed day one and two and will continue creating the book throughout the week. We then finished the day with a read aloud, the book discussed polar bears and arctic life, something many of the children aren't familiar with. This was fun as I got to share my personal snow experiences with the students.
Although today was extremely busy it was fun to complete hands on activities with the students. The group then prepared for the mile walk back to the compound, where we lesson planned, had dinner, and shared about our day. One thing many of us have learned is to expect the unexpected. A verse I like to remember is Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your path."
Signing off!
